Panimoravintola Koulu

This is a large place located one block away from Turku’s main square. There is plenty outside seats. The decor is from the 1920s like a speakeasy.

There were 6 in-house-made beers. The brewmaster was tending the bar and was happy to explain the styles to me. I was able to order beers in 0.1L and 0.2L tasting mugs. The beers were certainly better than the commonplace lagers but I found them to be overly hoppy in general.

There is a food menu but we didn’t try anything.

 

Went there tonight for food and beer. I liked the old stone building, different rooms with different themes. They had some decent live music. Beers weren't bad but the food was fabulous! Service overall was pretty good, but it was spotty at times. Crowd was on the young side, but also had some middle aged and a geezer or two. I got a souvenir tshirt and mug.. Prices were a little steep, but this is Scandinavia after all. I'd like to return someday. It was also a neat that they have a decent variety of games for whiling away foul weather days.
