Pours amber with a purplish tint, topped with a two finger stark white head, leaves sticky webs of lacing.
Blueberry pie aroma, but not sweet, dough and powdery yeast.
blueberry, powdery yeast, dough, toast/biscuit notes in the taste.
Light-medium bodied, good for beer drinkers but my blueberry beer loving girlfriend still enjoyed it.

Stepped into the black with this one on 10/19/2004. 14-oz. pour in a nice goblet at the Cambridge location.

The beer menu stated that this was a “Belgian-style pale ale” and “is double-fermented with wild Maine blueberries.” The malt used included pale, crystal, and carawheat, while the hops listed were Saaz and Hersbrucker. Also listed as 6% ABV. The bartender informed me that 120 pounds of berries were used.

Initial 1/8 inch of head was white as a bone, which quickly subsided to a wraith-like nebula, large stars floating at the circumference. Deep orange haze to hue, verging on a light burnt umber. A cold compress of tartness with an edge of sweet malt were immediately present on the nose, and an almost white pepper spiciness at its tail end. The first thing to pass the lips was a cooling malt wash, followed by a berry fruit tart puckering that was not biting or overwhelming in the least; the hops balanced the offering out with just a gentle coddling of bite. This light to medium-bodied pour is one I would order again without reservations. I was happily surprised that the blueberries were not the star attraction here, but rather a nice complement to the entire profile. Perhaps an appearance at the BBF is in order?
