The beer arrived on the table black with a ruby highlight and a foamy and tan head which was very persistent to lace the entire glass from top to bottom.
The aroma was dark fruits withe raisins and prunes and chocolate mixed with expresso coffee. Unfortunately there was a slight cardboard aroma of oxidation which detracted.
The flavor was chocolate with a light alcoholic flavor and coffee coupled with roastiness and chocolate. The beer also had a nice caramel presence and the entire flavor profile improved as the beer warmed.
The finish was dry with lasting chocolate and coffee into the aftertaste. The body was medium full but could be a bit bigger for an RIS/American Double Stout. The beer was nice, and the alcohol restrained but the cardboard detracted from the aroma and the beer was just a bit thin.
10 ounce glass and sampler glass at the brewpub. The beer was served too cold, let it warm before giving it a whirl.
