Take a slice of black forest cake and swirl it up into a beer, and you have John Harvard's Black Forest Porter. The deep black, ruby highlighted beer arrives with a coffee colred head of loosely packed bubbles that disinitigrates leaving a modest amout of lacing. The smell is rich with cherries and dark chocolate with modest malt sweetness. The first sip is filled to the brim with cherry flavor, followed in the end by dusty, dark chocolate notes. Modest carbonation keeps the flavors dancing and the medium body is perfectly suited. A wonderful treat on a cold night, this one got better as it warmed up.
