2004 Vintage, sampled 04.09.06.
Less than 50 released.
Appearence: Pours a sparkling orangish amber with a thin, creamy white head. The head dies down to a collar.
Smell: The smell is sweet and fruity, with loads of spices in the background. The alcohol is subtle. Very complex. Almost Tripel like yeast qualities, with some vinous notes. Fantastic.
Taste and Mouthfeel: Incredible. This has the sparkling, amazing mouthfeel of a perfectly aged Belgian Pale Ale, with the incredible flavors, complexity, balanced, and creaminess of a Tripel. The sweetness of the malts is fantistic, with fruity notes throughout. Apricots covered in sugar come to mind. The hops are subtle, but still kicking after all this time. The finish is dry, with a tiny bit of sourness in the background. Creamy, rich mouthfeel. The alcohol is barely noticable in the mouth, but definitly warms you right up on the way down. Spiciness throughout, but especially in the finish.
Drinkability and Overall: A one-off bottling from the Monroeville, PA location. Definitly a great choice to bottle. I've never had this fresh, but it seems like this has been aged perfectly. Even though it's $25/bottle, it's worth it, especially since it's 1 Liter. Have a few friends over and enjoy. Highly recommended.
