Ran the 20 miles, a 50 lb. sack on my back, with this one on 5/4/2006. 14-oz. goblet pour at the Harvard Square location.
Described in the menu, This Trappist-style ale is fermented with a special Belgian yeast. The spicy, fruity aroma complements the firm, dry finish of this complex ale. Malt: Pale, Crystal Hops: Saaz, Hersbracker OG: 18.5 BUs: 20 7.1% abv. Very thinly sliced coating of bone white head that dissolves to just a skein. Very deep, dark brown hue verging on black and thus cant see whats happening in there. Very fruity, ripe banana and vanilla scents on nose, with a touch of caramel and cedar. Very straightforward dubbel good amount of malt sweetness balanced with a lightly present hop character; some cocoa notes and a springy mint flavor lopes around in there.
One of the best JH offerings Ive had the pleasure of consuming.
