This beer pours a burnt umber color with a tan sturdy head.
It has the distinct aroma of raisins or prunes along with the malt flavor.
The raisiny/pruney smell follows through to the taste, a very sweet flavor without being too sweet or sickly sweet. its a bit thicker body, but not chewy.
On the tongue it is quite smooth with slight acidic bite.
edit: resampled after some experience, 2/20/07
A - this scotch ale pours very dark with brown/mahogany highlights, with a full finger of dark tan head, of course too dark to note carbonation
S - still that dark fruit, dark raisin aroma, with some background sweetness like a vanilla/toffee type sugariness, very palatable
T - a thick syrupy raisin flavor, the vanilla/toffee from the aroma definitely diminishes, but is still present
M&D - a nice smooth mouthcoat, and the 10% ABV warms the throat on the way down, a syrupy smoothness, a very nice scotch ale

I was really _really_ excited about this brew once I got a good whiff. Solid burnt sweetness, caramel, molasses. It was beautifully dark. Looked like it was going to be a solid meal. Nope. It was suprisingly thin, so much so I was ready to give it back. It still tasted ok but it felt like it was in need of a straw.

This is an excellent wee heavy, very smooth the alcohol is barely noticable; very dark almost as dark as their porter - it is not a session beer but one which can be savored and one 16oz was enough. I think this is a seasonal but not positive.
