Appears a transparent gold with a small, off-white head that quickly fades out into a mild cap. Streaks of lacing are left around the glass. Small streams of CO2 bubbles slowly rise to the top.
Smell is of apricots, light vanilla cream, freshly baked sourdough bread, mild bananas, cardamom, and perhaps a touch of anise.
Taste is much of the same aromas but perhaps toned down slightly. The spices seem to be a bit more evident in the flavor though it's not really a bad thing.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slight abv noticable, smooth, mildly sweet up front, and semi-dry.
Interstingly enough, this reminded me of John's Belgian Pale Ale that he brewed when he was here with the addition of vanilla beans, and cardamom. It even reminded me slightly of the Yard's Chateau Kenso, which John helped formulate.
I may have to get a growler of this over the weekend for a revisit. It was enticing enough to make me think about it, which is never a bad thing. The bartender didn't know anything about this beer and looked at me like I had two heads when I started talking about previous brewers, cardamom, and the such. Overall, not a bad brew. I wouldn't really call it a tripel(a bit too spicy and I don't think it's all from natural yeast esters) but it's decent, nonetheless.

I purchased this at John Harvard's Brew House in Wayne, Pa. It came in a pint glass.
Appearace: A translucent yet deep amber color body with a slightly tan head. The head seemed as if the bartender cut it short (when it got to me there was a finger, maybe a finger and a half), however with the size of the bubbles and the awsome retention, I bet a good pour would easily produce around three or four fingers. By the bottom of the glass, there was sticky lace in decent amounts down the walls.
Smell: The most dissapointing sensory experience was the smell. Don't get me wrong, it was still above average, but at the same time it was rather bland.
Taste: The beer list described this as spicy and boozy. I didn't get the boozy aspect, and I didn't think it was too spicy either. There certainly was some spice apparent, more of a floral hop though, as well as sweet malts hitting the back of my tounge.
Mouthfeel: Very very smooth and crisp.
Drinkability: Very very good.
Don't drink and review.
