Poured a deep amber hue with a finger and a half creamy tan head. There was very good retention and good lacing.

The smell was rather subdued and featured a light caramel malt.

The taste consisted of a solid sweet caramel malt with some fruity elements. A decent hop presence dried the beer toward the finish.

The mouthfeel was a bit on the thin side, though aided by the cask serving.

Overall a servicable red ale.

Reviewed on 7/17/08. On tap. Pours a dark amber with a small head. Aroma of sweet malt, flowery hops. Flavor of roasted malt, also oddly enough some cheddar Goldfish crackers. An odd-flavored beer but it was pretty drinkable and refreshing.

Poured a dark, rich ruby color with a solid tan head atop. Since it was a cask, the head retention was fantastic. Aroma was not overly strong or noticeable. Slightly bready.

This is a very well-balanced red ale, and has quite a rich and smooth feeling to it. Much thicker than you'd expect from this genre, but welcomed nonetheless. Bready malts, and a very slight grassy hop profile make this one interesting enough to go back to. One thing I've noticed is JH pretty much has red beers down pat.
