The only way this beer has any flavor at all is if you decide to have a rim of cinnamon sugar on the glass. Otherwise, there's a definite lack of flavor.

Decent Beer

Pours a nice reddish copper that is a little hazy and has a nice off white head with decent lacing.

Has an aroma of cinnamon and citrus to it.

Has a nice taste of cinnamon, citrus and bread pudding. This would be a great beer on thanksgiving or christmas beside the fact that youll be so stuffed that you wont want a medium bodied beer.

Has a high drinkability and an average mouthfeel.

Appearance: Clear, lightly hazy, brownish copper. The beige head thins to a ring.

Smell: Toasty, with a sweet, malty aroma. Spicy cinnamon and ginger. Alcohol becomes evident on swirling.

Taste: Toasty and sweet upfront. Moves into a spicy cinnamon and ginger flavors. The finish is alcoholic with a bit oh hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, moderate carbonation, dry finish.

Drinkability: A tad sweet and a little overspiced.

Here is a beer to seek out. I have never seen a beer served this way. Cinnamon sugar edges the entire rim of the glass, like salt for a margarita. This affects the aroma (obviously sweet with cinnamon) as well as the initial taste.

This is a good thing. The blend is excellent--many of the beers spices came out (nutmeg, all spice, and cinnamon). It's full bodied, but not overtly sweet. While this is more of a novelty beer, it still is very tasty, well made, and worth trying with an open mind.

So, here I am wandering the streets of Boston and the aisles of Kappy's looking for a great Pumpkin Ale.

Doesn't it figure that one of the best harvest beers I have found leaves out the pumpkin entirely.

There's no wrestling between pumpkin and spices in this one. There's no pumpkin.

What is there? A suprisingly easy to drink spiced ale that I will be going back for. A dark copper color, a solid, whitish head and a nose that really carries the cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. Add a little apple, and you have a pie.


This was my first serious tasting experience at John Harvard's, and it's a beer I highly recommend.

Presentation: On tap.

Appearance: Copper hued with a minimal ring of lace.

Smell: Candied apple and apple pie aroma in the nose.

Taste: Medium bodied with a sweet front of apple pie spices (cinnamon and clove), fruit and some malt. The hop bitterness is restrained and rides with the spices into the finish. Very clean in the end, also goes a bit dry.

Notes: Right on target with the spicing, structured well with a clean palate. Well done!
