This beer poured a black body with a tan head.
Nose is very rich with a strong dark chocolate and malt mixed with a woody high alcohol aged smell.
Taste is full bodied and rich. Not milkshake thick, but good. Tastes of malt, chocolate, caramel, touches of wood age and maybe even some vanilla or bourbon notes. Bitterness is present and balanced with an earthy hop touch.
Very nice mix of old ale and porter. At 8.5abv this could be dangerous. Great beer.

This beer was brewed to celebrate the 13th anniversary of this JH location. The brew is labeled as a scotch barrel-aged imperial porter, and it was served in a 14 oz goblet. Dark brown color with a thin white head. Intense smell of scotch and booze on the nose. The barrel aging really stands out in a good way. Taste was just as good. Rich flavors of coffee, caramel, and cocoa on the palate. All paired well with the overlying scotch taste. Very smooth beer, but the abv was a bit on the high side. Also, the extreme flavors present did not match well with food, thus I only wanted to have the pleasure of drinking just one tonight. As my server said and I agreed: this is the best beer they have brewed in the past year.
