Talk about one of those specialty beer categories. . . munich dunkel lager. .

A dark in color beer that lacks the appearance of heft. Brown head, rises only to about 1/3" and then quickly recedes. Mild chocolate and coffee malt notes.

Taste is a weird changeup and aspects of many different styles. Not chewy, thin mouthfeel, but it has porter like taste qualities, although the hopping on this is very minimal. Like a thinner English porter with a lager yeast. Nuttiness and dark fruit notes. Metallic yet not bitter. Overall its all pretty subtle.

A dark, yet thin beer, brown head evaporates, well I guess dissipates quickly. A quirky metallic and bitter aroma.

Taste, a mixed bag. No hops, but a faint degree of coffee and chocolate as if it was a thin porter. No heft though, seems to be a malt to just get the SRM up, and not to give you anything to chew on. Ends up going from interesting to not so much, a little pricier than what it should be given the lack of ingredients.

Pours a brown cola colour, maybe a bit lighter. 3/4in head subsides to a healthy lace with very mild carbonation. Aroma is very sweet and malty, nutty with a bit of caramel, plum, and apple juice. No real hop aroma to speak of.

First taste reveals some liquorice flavours, roasted malt, caramel, nuts, apple juice, with a weird soapy note in the back end and a surprisingly alcoholic burn. Metallic twang in the aftertaste. Fizzy in the mouth, definitely overcarbonated with a very wet finish. The whole brew leans toward being straight up muddled in its profile, and comes off being pretty bland on the whole. I'd definitely pass on another.

Smell was of faint chocolate malt

Taste...loads of carbonation with a nice hint of sweet chocolate malt.

Mouthfeel: very crisp..but noting else!!

Drinkability: ok..but kinda non-discript...someone discribed it as seltzerish..and i'd have to agree

Poured into pint glass.
Dark brown/black body with a semi-thick head that stayed, stuck to the sides a bit.
Aroma had hints of malt, chocolate, bread and molasses. Seemingly leading to a strong taste.
Taste was not as strong as i thought. A good balance between the malt, coffee, chocolate, and sweetness. Some dark fruit...blackberry?
Good feel..hops were just enough, a bit lacking up front.

Kind of an odd one. Meduim brown in colour with red hints. Not much carbonation at all. Smells like a lager (a bit of sulfur and herbal hops), and the first flavors are also very much like a lager (slightly drying, with light malt and a bit of hops). The finish is where things start to develop, with hints of chocolate and roasted nuts. I’m not sure if this beer is "subtle" or just "lacking in flavor". Either way, it’s not bad, but nothing special either.

Presentation- Pils style glass served via the tap. Had at the Black Forest restaurant in Invermere, B.C.

Appearance- Semi dark golden in color, very small head with little lace.

Smell- Slight sweet roasted malt and some grainy notes.

Taste- This is what I now call the beer with no taste. I literally drank this whole thing and tasted nothing. Maybe, just maybe, so light sweet malts, but that's really pushing it.

Mouthfeel- Lightly carbonated with a slight seltzery feel.

Drinkability- Mildly thirst quenching, but otherwise a beer I would have no need to try again.

Thsi beer is not just black coloured lager but rather a nice well rounded dark lager. The slightly sweet malt body is not overdone and the blance seems right for this style of beer. Almost tastes like a weaker double bock but the complexity and bigness is not part of what makes this beer style. A nice beer for the shoulder seasons between winter warmers and summer coolers.

Big foamy white head on the pour, the body is a burnt mahogany colour with a cherry nimbus and highlights when held up to direct light. Grains on the nose with some slight herbal hops. Metallic grain flavour up front with a bitter herbal finish and aftertaste. Mouthfeel was a bit watery, but goes down very easy. All in all not a very memorable beer for me.

This dark brown Dunkel had a beige head, but it disappeared beat-feet fast. There's virtually no lace to mention. The sweet malty aroma dominates a mild hop nose and faint alcohol fume. The medium malt body is a little thinner than it appears...not bad, just a bit deceiving. The lime-like hops are mildly applied. There's a light dark caramel sweetness and slight prune flavor. The omnipresent alcohol never waivers.

Presentation: 12oz Euro-style bottle with a foil neck sheaf and plain white label.

Appearance: Dark brown with a tan froth that settles into a thin ring lace.

Smell: Sweet malt, hints of ripe fruit and alcohol.

Taste: Very malty with a pleasingly thin leafy bitterness. The dark malt flavours linger for quite some time.

Notes: This is a delicious lager, well balanced and a nice switch from the typical golden lager style
