Cola color with a big beige head. Aroma of coffee, caramel, chocolate, roasted malt. Caramel, coffee , and a hint of spices in taste. Medium bitterness. Perfect beer.

April 2005: 500 ml bottle, bought at Pivni Galerie, Prague. Dark reddish brown to ruby colour, large & thick tan head. Aroma is surprisingly moderate: some malts, porridge, hints of roastiness, caramel. Flavour is more impressive: an immediate malty sweetness hits the tongue, followed by a pronounced roastiness with coffee elements. A robust & warming mouthfeel, alcohol is evident but not unpleasant. Roasted malts and quite a bit of hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste. Not bad.

Poured from a brown 16.9 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of licorice, dark fruits. Taste is roasted malts, licorice, a touch of alcohol is present. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall isn't the flavor profile I expect from the style, but it's a solid beer.

A: The beer is very dark amber (near black) in color and poured with a thin beige head.
S: There are aromas of sweet, roasted malts in the nose.
T: The taste is very similar to the smell and somewhat complex; it has flavors of malty sweetness and raisins along with some hints of spices.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied and viscous on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. There is some warming from the alcohol.
D: This beer is a slow sipper but is good for the winter months. There is no way that I could have more than one of these at a time.

Pours black with ruby highlights and a large light brown head.
Nose shows light roasted malt, vegemite and liqourice. That vegemite is a bit full on.
Better flavours, not as much vegemite. Plenty of sweet caramel and toffee, liqourice and soft roasted notes. Very sweet.
More carbonation would be better.

This was one of my earliest favorite beers, and the beer that really started me on porters. I used to get this at Circle Liquors when I went to TCNJ, but then they stopped carrying it (just leaving an empty space in their fridge where it used to be, for like a year). I've never seen this again :(

It is extremely dark and feels rather sticky and pretty sweet. It's a very enjoyable way to get yourself drunk. I would drink 2 500ml of these in college, purchased for $1.60 each, and that would put me in a pretty good place drunkwise.

I eventually ended up concluding that Zywiec Porter was a superior porter. I'm a fan of neat, very well integrated beers, and Zywiec is smoother and more refined tasting than Boom. Boom is a little bit messy in comparison. But I would still love to get a hold of some of these again.

Definitely give this a try if you see it.

Bottle courtesy of Boboski: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a nice own foamy head with average retention. Aroma of black chocolate malt. Taste is a mix between some black chocolate with some limited sweetness and a dry finish which is more or less pleasant. Body is slightly above average with some medium carbonation. The dry finish leave me a bit perplex but still an interesting take on a style that I don’t experience often enough.

The body of this beer is a lightly glossy black and it holds a frothy, thumb thick, tan head that is mostly lasting.

The aroma holds molasses, stewed raisins, hearty bread grains and mild licorice and caramel.

Very light malty, molasses influenced first sip. The mouthfeel thickens toward the finish becoming creamy about the same time prune and raisin flavors develop. There is also more of that hearty grain flavor that suggests a filling sweet bread spiked with molasses and raisins for sweetness. There is a silky roundness to what is essentially not a very thick beer that makes it feel fuller than it is. As it warms the finish takes on cooked sweet cherry/marzipan notes that add the suggestion of candy hardness to the finish. A very subtle beer this that keeps challenging you as you sio at it. Very nice.

Porter Boom pours a deep, dark brown (just about black) with a small tan head from a brown 500 ml bottle. Nice aroma, sweet, winey, chocolatey and more. Milkshake thick mouthfeel. Lots of flavor, it's definitely sweet, estery and has strong chocolate and some coffee notes. A real surprise from a brewery I've heard nothing about (stay away from the Extra Boom though, I thought it was pretty bad which almost kept me from trying this one).

From a bottle purchased at an Eastern European deli in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

On opening the bottle, it couldn't contain itself with foam bubbling out. This initial burst faded quickly though. When poured, it turned out to be a fairly docile dark ruby red brew with a white fading head. Aroma was mainly cocoa and vine fruits, with a vineous introduction on the palate. Hints of molasses and some chocolate notes added to the experience, which led through to a fruity, quite rich finish.

Very pleasant, though slightly too sweet for me to want a session on this. An ideal beer to match with a chocolate pudding.

Dark brown pour, not nearly as dark as other porters, with an inch of dense, creamy, tan fluff that retains well before sliding down to a thick veil.

Aroma is dirty, bittersweet cocoa, dark roasty grains, dry leather, chewing tobacco, and hints of chocolate infused caramel.

Flavor has only a bit of chocolate, with darkly toasted malt, dried hay, tobacco, old leather, and a funky, burlap sack kind of organic note. Very subtle herbal hops in the finish. Not vert porter-like in terms of flavor or appearance, more like a dark, brown ale.

Body is just below medium, with sparsre bubbles of large carbonation, and a slick, dextrinous mouthfeel that is sticky and slippery. A very unusual example of this style.

With a name like Porter Boom, how can one resist?
I certainly coud not.
And at, like, $1.29 for an imperial pint I thought it pretty hard to go wrong.
I was right.
This was one of the best deals on a beer I have ever gotten.
I'd have spent $4 or $5 and still have been happy with this brew.
As baltic porters go, the only real flaw I could find with this was that the mouthfeel was a bit watery. The 8% alcohol goes undetected.. a little smokey a little raisiny, sweet roasty toasty malts...
Very, very smooth.
This one is a no brainer.
Try it on for size.

Boom! Love the name. Pours a dark, dark brown color with very little head. Smell is raisiny, sweet. Pretty straightforward. Taste is again raisiny but not as sweet as it smells. There's a lovely tartness and bitterness in here that balances it all well.

Mouthfeel is smooth and smoky, very nice. Quite drinkable- alcohol is very sneaky and hidden.

On a side note, I think I prefer this to Trappistes Rochefort 10. And at less than 2 dollars for this guy, and a whole lot more for the Trappistes... hey, grab this instead. Boom!

Big tan head sits atop a very dark brown, near black body that is still translucent. Smell has a lot of grassy malt, a little bit of chocolate/roasted malts. Taste is sweet, with grassy malt and some roasted malts. The 8% is nowhere to be found, hidden behind sweetness. Not a bad baltic porter, and one of the better beers I have had fromt he region.

Dark brown with a slightly red tinge, this beer sports a menacing head. The cap popped with explosive effervescence. Not much to the aroma, certainly not the roasted malt that I love in a porter. There, however, is a faint maltiness and doughiness, combined with a touch of alcohol. The taste is extremely sweet and malty. It almost borders on sugary, and at times reminds me of dark malt extract. It’s creamy, with a little alcohol warming and dark, ripe fruit flavors that appear in the mid and hind-taste. The beer dries out a touch by the finish, but still is quite sweet. It’s notably good, and fairly drinkable.

16.9 oz bottle.

Pours a dark mohagony with a hot chocolate tan head. Head disapates rather quickly and leaves just a little lacing.

Aroma is rum like (brown sugar, molasses) with some dark fruits (raisin, prune, fig).

Flavor is roasty, bitter chocolate, sweeet dark fruit, with a slight bitter, very warming alcohol finish.
Boom I think means, you drink all of this you go boom. :-]
But at $2.19 a bottle the QPR(quality/price ratio) is very high.
