Sled Dog Milk Stout

I tried this on tap at the brewery. The color was a dark brown/black with a head that quickly disappeared. The flavor was smooth and creamy with dark malts and molasses and some hop flavor. The brew was somewhat flat. Overall, I would drink this brew again, but I thought the vanilla porter was better.

I'm not sure of the "retired" note on this one. Had it a year or two ago at the brewery and just took home a growler a few weeks ago as well.
Appearance - perfect dark black brew with dark brown head
Smell - strong notes of chocolate and dark malts
Taste - nice touch of lactose in with a great strong stout. a bit of an ether aftertaste, but not at all overpowering. this was my favorite of their beers until I tried their vanilla and then that was adjusted when they mixed the van with their rasp wheat.
Mouthfeel - nice and smooth
Drinkability - a little strong, but great to drink over and over again.
If you're lactose intolerant (like me), bring a couple pills of lactaid, or feel a surprise rumbling afterwards.
Great guys to drink with at the brewery, have your pong skills honed because they make a good team.

The first thing that came to mind was the absence of head. The few patches that lingered around the glass were a dark tan. Seems to be lots of sediment in this keg. The color was a cloudy dark brown. The nose was of a dry Irish stout. It had a milky taste that was well balance with sweet malts. The carbonation is low and seems almost flat. This produced an exceptionally light mouthfeel for an imperial stout. I am usually more a fan of the thicker beers, but this sensation was unique and enjoyable.

Despite the low carbonation, this is a very drinkable beer. It's mildly balanced and goes well with most meat and poultry dishes. The ABV is 11% and is available year round at the Arctic Craft.

The above review resulted in an average 3 to 3.5 score. This brewery has been somewhat inconsistant in their quality. Lately, I have seen a vast improvement. In May of 2008 I visited the brewery and had a wonderfull pint of the Milk Stout. Below is my review:

This batch poured a near black color with some rich brown hues. The head was a dark tan, but as with all their beers, quickly dissipated. The nose was of sweet milk lactose, fruity malts and chocolate. The taste was also quite sweet yet very well balanced. A full body with a good amount of carbonation. This tasting I encountered a superb example of a big sweet milk stout. Perhaps my last sample was a bad batch. Nice work John, keep it up.

Smell: Mettalic & slight toastiness

Taste: Super lactose with chocoalate notes. Dry fruitty finish with molaseesss & licorice notes

MF; Rich & slightlty & under carbonated

Pretty darn drinkable, Get this on hand pump!
