Sorte Muld - dark iron age ale, We are in a wooden house, the posts of which are covered with gold leaf. The smoke from the open fire burns in the eyes, while women come carrying large drinking horns. It is summer and beer is to be drunk.
But not the kind you know from the local supermarket. NO. This one is dark and thick and sweet. Spiced with chamomile flowers and St. John's wort and mint from the watering hole. You are in Sorte Muld, in the Germanic Iron Age.

Copenhagen 25/5 2021. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Rotunden, Hellerup. Old medieval style drawing of fellow gobbling beer from a drinking horn.
Pours opaque, hazy amber with a small off-white head. Settles as thin patchy layer of foam unable of covering the surface of the beer. No lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet caramel-like odor mingling with a spicy herbal scent. Caramel and toffee. Herbal tea.
Light carbonation. Medium thick, soft, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish and lingers for a bit. Finish is a bit sweet and watery.
They apparently liked their beer quite sweet in medieval times.
