Copenhagen 11/1 2020. 50 cl bottle from Bornholmerbutikken, Torvehallerne, Kbh. K. White label with a sketchy, faded drawing of a Cocoa plant.
Pours slightly unclear maroon with a big off-white head. Fairly stable. Settles as 1 cm thick, uneven, lumpy layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. Clinging to the sides of the glass. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is medium intense, sweet and with a sharp, bitter edge. Caramel, cocoa, toffee, brown sugar. Dry, bitter, sharp notes.
Medium strong carbonation. Thin, oily, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor has a medium strong sweetness followed by a surprisingly strong bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with a sweet undercurrent. Lingers for a while.
Well balanced demonstration that Cocoa is not sweet in itself.
