Draught pint at the Unita Brewing Co. "Pub" in the SLC airport: A pleasant if unremarkable example of the style - Light brown body w/minimal white head which quickly vanished leaving a thin ring & mere suggestion of lacing; faint whiff of sweet malts; more malt on the tongue; CO2 a tad prickly & body a bit thin.

a fine brown ale here, but its a bit sweet as they go, which is a problem i encountered with a lot of craft drafts in utah, like the fermentation has to be cut off before the beer is fully finished, leaving a somewhat sweet and incomplete final product, especially in the darker styles, and this one is a victim of something like that too i think, although the flavors of the malt are very good, and the sweetness didnt slow me down too much here. i blame the laws, not the brewers. the color here is between deep amber and light brown, with a low glow to it, a nice creamy khaki head from the tap, and a sturdy nutty aroma. i get faint cocoa here too, but this isnt as deep and chocolate malt driven as a lot of them are, i get more of an english crystal thing, lots of toffee and baked sweetness to it. the flavor is really solid all the way until the end, where brown sugar and then just generic malty sweetness linger past their welcome, but before that its earthy nutty almond and walnut nuance, with baked biscuit, maple syrup, and even wet tobacco, pretty layered for a simple little brown ale. the high carbonation helps cut the sweetness, but its still so sugary, especially when it warms up a little. not something i could make an afternoon of, but nice as a single pint. simple but solid.
