lots to like about this one, especially that it has been barrel aged, albeit only for a month, and still complies with the utah draft laws in terms of abv, not too many barrel aged stouts at this modest strength, which obviously lends drinkability, but is also cool just to be able to have something deep and sturdy and complex like this and still drive home. the good doesnt stop there though, its also really full bodied, lathery, and creamy in texture, youd expect some thinness due to its low alcohol, but this feels a lot bigger than it is, still all wintery and palate coating and hearty. the flavors are good too, some deep roast, coffee overtones in the dark barley and some chocolate too, maybe chocolate added, good depth to the malt overall, not too much whiskey but definitely some charred oak here, and quite dry to finish. some oats likely in the mash to help with this texture, a hint of smoke in the middle, and maybe just a touch of raisin or something caramelized in the center too. considering the draft limitations, this is a really nice beer, and punches well above its weight. one of their more impressive offerings from our visit in this weekend!
