definitely a kettle sour not a wild ale despite the listing here. i wanted a little more from this one, my first beer from these guys in awhile, cool art on the can, and the beer is clean but underwhelming. its cool that this isnt also done with like raspberry or something, i feel like hibiscus so rarely gets to stand on its own in beer, so thats one thing i really like about this, but overall the beer isnt real hibiscus forward, and the sourness is slight, so this ends up kind of being forgettable, underdone to me in a few respects, its not really either of the things it seems to be trying to be, but its summer and light, only very loosely beery at all, with such a minimal grain profile and a total lack of hops, its like tart juice, with a cranberry and even rose wine note, certainly no more acidic than that. watery pink in my cup, fizzy like a soda, but not holding its head very long and without the brightness and color saturation i was expecting. it smells lemony and just tangy, with the floral hibiscus seemingly adding a springy freshness but also light bitterness, a hint of red currant, not quite mouthwatering, and the flavor under delivers a little bit too, i get the hibiscus but its mellow, a cool contrast to all the gross overly flavored sours dominating the market right now, but this swings back maybe a tad too far in the other direction. juicy and refreshing, clean too, no real malt so speak of, very little body, but quick finishing and without appreciable residual sugar. i would have liked a little more hibiscus on this, and it could definitely take more acidity and maybe even malt body and personality too, but this hits almost cocktail-esque and is easy and drinkable. should maybe be better than it is, but not unenjoyable, not in the least, simple in a good way but dont expect a hibiscus bomb.
