Purchased at the Real Ale beer shop, Richmond, on the kind recommendation of Rastaman(Duff) who happens to work at the shop. Bottle-conditioned in a 500ml brown bottle. BBE Oct. 2006, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.
A: dark amber hue, with yeast haze in it; thin but foamy off-white cap sustains o.k., and very gentle carbonation is detected.
S: upfront is a fruit-estery aroma, with sweet lemon, chewy pale/+amber malts, a "raw-ish" note of crushed nuts, a slightly sour, homebrew yeasty edge and a faint hint of star-anise(?!) (mainly coming from the yeasts) stays at the tail. Pretty soft and pleasantly fruity. Luckily the yeasty edge doesn't go wild~~
T: lively-textured nutty maltiness, spicy yeasts and fruity hop flavour all come at once, while the mild caramelised sugary note gradually develops at the mid-palate. Like some English nutty amber bitter, the aftertaste is slightly bitter-sweet and only faintly hoppy, yet the residual yeasty edge and its lightly spicy and dryish hints provides a "thirst-arousing" finish.
M&D: nicely-controlled carbonation results in a semi-creamy and lively mouthfeel; albeit medium-minus bodied, this beer comes pretty flavoursome. Another good quality bottle-conditioned beer from this Norfolk gem-brewery~~
