Despite the name Suröl (Sour beer), this one got nothing to do with the Flanders sour brown beers: Instead, it is a lager made to accompany surströmming, the very special fermented Baltic herring. The slogan on the label reads The simple and genuine.

The colour is medium yellow; the large white foam sinks down to a finger thick lid. No lacing.
The smell is fresh with some sweet malty notes, some corn and minerals. Not much of bitterness here.
The taste is quite light with some surprising sour-salt notes. The malts and light bitterness are quite well balanced. The bread-like malts disappears, leaving room for the discreet bitter hops. The aftertaste got some sweet-salt notes, but the dominant flavour is dough-like malt. Maybe there is a metallic bitter touch there, too.
The carbonation is quite strong with lots of small bubbles. Really fresh!
Well It is not that watery as other 3.5% lagers can be. Still, it lacks a little character.
