A weak ale devoid of froth, carbonation, or appeal. It's possible to discern a faint whiff of sweet, piney hops on nectar-like malts. But you'd better act quickly for it ain't much and it doesn't last. The flavor is routine at best but ultimately mundane and faded. The best I can say of it is that Starboard strikes an agreeable balance between faint, sugar-water sweetness and gentle herbal bitterness. But its overall lack of vitality and freshness easily negates these virtues, reducing the beer to a pint of clear crimson tedium.
Aside from the name that somehow complements the Mash Tun's other IPA, Portside, Starboard does nothing to gain or hold one's attention. This is an IPA? In Portland? Hardly.
