Notes: The label reads "Belgian Pale Ale", but the beer is dark - by mistake the labels from the 2005 edition wasn't changed.

It's always interesting to taste swedish microbrews, and this is the second beer from Dugges I've been able to try. Tasted it together with Bananaman.

Pours a dark amber color with a nice white head.

Smell is a bit peculiar. There's definitely yeasty notes (not surprising though, it's a belgian styled beer). I also think it's a lot of dried fruits.

The taste is interesting; malty, toffee, dried fruits, a bit yeasty with aromatic hoppy notes. Decent bitterness.

Mouthfeel is good; pretty smooth, filling and round.

Drinkability is also good. It's an "easy-to-drink-beer" with well integrated alcohol. Of course it's nothing to have a few of - 50 cl makes this a good beer to share with a friend.

I had this one thanks to Ljunkan! A great beer from a great brewery. Lucky enough both Ljunkan and me have a bottle each that will spend some time in the "beer cellar".

Dark amber color with a nice beige/white head that lasts atleast for a while.

Taste pretty peculiar with lots of "krokant" like the swedish candy "daim" and some nice spicyness. I think this is a real cool fusion between belgian and american strong ale. Reminds slightly of the american barley wine-style.

I think this one will be a little more rounded after a couple of more months, maybe a year. Really nice anyway, a beer for two.

The beer is deep dark brown; the liquid is clear although the beer is bottle conditioned. The finger thick compact head is yellow-beige. Some lacing.

The smell is hoppy with notes of yeast, roasted malt, sweet dried fruits, some alcohol, creamy flavours of fruit candy and a hint of tea.

The taste is strong and potent (as expected) with lots of fruity notes: Apples, apricots, green bananas, raisins, plums... Some quickly passing notes of alcohol. There are sweet full-bodied notes of semi-roasted malt too. Hints of brown sugar, yeast and meat, apricot jam and a very fragile touch of smoke. The aftertaste (unexpectedly short) is milder and very balanced with a fine clean bitterness, notes of lemon-lime and bitter herbs. The finish brings notes of fresh fruits.

The carbonation is fresh with medium-sized fresh bubbles. The liquid is smooth and a bit thick.

At 9.8%, this smooth and fresh take on the Belgian strong pale (is it really pale?) ale style is indeed an insidious brew. Not at all the orgy in yeast and canned fruits that some Belgian ales are.

[email protected] after a nightmarish day at work!

A: Dark red/brownish with a small beige head looks very creamy.

S: Cherries, Citric notes, Licorice, Hops. Quite lovely.

T: Caramel, Yeast, Sugar, Aniseed, Fruit, Spices.

M: Quite dry and bitter with a nice complexity with lots of hops in the end.

A belgian-style ale that has been dry-hopped with amarillo and simcoe seems to be a winning concept. If you are lucky enough to find this somewhere, get it. Recommended
