Tasted on-tap 11/06/06 at Jobber's Canyon brewpub in Omaha, NE.

Cloudy milk chocolate in color with a good beige head and carbonation. Light banana and clove aroma with a touch of light chocolate underneath. Nicely balanced banana, clove, and chocolate flavors; yeast could have been a bit more pronounced but still very nice. Medium-light bodied with some creaminess and a light chocolate finish.

This and the stout were my 2 favorite beers here ... very nice DW.

Turbid liquid, muddy brown in hue; honestly this beer isn’t very attractive! Ha! Beige head, at the apex the foam mass created two-finger’s worth of head. Head retention was excellent; it slowly faded to a thin cap. Said cap had great staying power also. The subsequent lacing was very widespread, it was organized foamy confusion; very lovely. All joking aside about the beer looking like Missouri River water, it does present itself as it is suppose to! Nice.

The nose says Dunkel Weizen. I wish the potency was louder, I wish I would scream at me but that is not the case. I can detect dull wheaty notes and hints of oats. There are the typical “dunkel” maltiness (dried coca powder and caramel). Plus there are the traditional “weizen” aromas like hints of clove and banana. This beer is a tickle clean for me but I like the nose overall. It clearly is a German influenced dark wheat beer. This seems like a beer a brewpub could easily screw-up. JC didn’t. Inviting bouquet.

The palate is not great but it is very tasty and sometimes that is all that matters. The nose didn’t lie, dull chocolate malts, distant caramel, oats, wheat, clove and bananas. There is a zippy spiciness at the swallow; this completes the beer on a high note. The flavor profile is well put-together, it is not jaw-dropping complex but it fits the image of what this beer is suppose to be. I haven’t had many domestic Dunkels and this one is damn good.

So far, all the JC beers I’ve tried lack a healthy mouthfeel. This one is thin and watery and it lacks the carbonation a Weizen should have. Medium-light in body. The mouthfeel has potential to be outstanding, just give me some bubbles!

Tasty. Drinkable. Likable. Give me a platter of brats or a doughy pizza and I am a happy boy. I liked this beer so much I bought an overpriced growler of it. It is not perfect but I like it. That is all that matters. Well done. Oh, I tried this at the brewpub and they do serve it in the proper glassware. Good job. It was purchased from the brewpub downtown.
