Clear, dark brown-red in hue; honestly the liquid doesn’t look like a Porter. It looks somewhat, well, thin. But I am not going to judge a book by its cover. It was served with a beige head of less than a half-finger in height. The foam quickly turned into a soapy cap, in other words head retention was fair. There was no subsequent lacing, disappointing. The appearance is aright… adequate but nothing more.

The nose says, “Porter.” Nice! Roasty, kind of dry with chocolaty undertones, kisses of coffee and char. There are no hops in the nose, Bully! Porter clone this is not. Then again, this is no Taddy Porter either. Still, I think this beer leans more on the English side then the American interpretation. Moderate potency; the nose is pleasant and inviting. I like it but I wish it said more.

The palate is solid. There is plenty of roast with coffee and chocolate vibes. It is dry at the back, not too sweet at any point. Like the nose the hops are hidden but they are obviously enough in the mix to balance this beer. There is not much depth, I couldn’t find any fruitiness, and no background flavors… it is chalky in spots. I can’t call this beer clean because it does have a long aftertaste. This is a good Porter.

Medium in body, it could use more beef but it is not thin to the point of distraction. Low but natural carbonation, the mouthfeel is doable.

Drinkable beer. Seasonable beer. Tasty beer. I’ll have more, I hope. I found no flaws. This is the best beer in the short life of Jobber’s Canyon. Worth a try.
