Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass. Dark brown body with a nice beige head. Good lacing on the glass. Smell was mostly dominated by coffee. Taste was really nice, with plenty of notes of dark barker's chocolate and espresso. Mouthfeel was on the bitter side; I would have preferred more of a coffee aftertaste and less espresso grinds. The high abv was not very present, so it was fairly drinkable. It's a pretty good porter if you love the addition of coffee.

22 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: The beer poured a nice two finger mocha head. It is pitch black no signs of carbonaation at the top of the glass. Head has reduced and left some spotty lacing on the glass too.

Smell: mocha/chocolate, roasted coffee, smokiness, and some bready malts.

Taste: A lot of coffee. Really roasty, but really bitter from the coffee too. A little too much for my palate.

Mouthfeel: dry, very bitter, a little harsh, lingering bitterness, medium to full bodied, and medium carbonation, and somewhat dry too.

Overall: This beer would be better if it probably didn't age on the coffee as long. Whether it is french roast or some kind of dark roast, the bitterness dominates all the other good flavors from the beer.

22oz bpmber poured into a New Belgium globe.

A: Very dark brown with a thick tan head. Excellent retention. Thick, foamy rings of lacing.

S: Rich dark chocolate and some lovely nutty coffee scents. Light citric hop smell, faint alcohol, tight berry fruitiness, and some vanilla bean.

T: Nutty tastes are closely followed by lots of roasted coffee beans. Woody and smokey. Quick flash of citric hops. Plenty of dark chocolate. Berry esters are stifled, but there. Finishes with lots of coffee and a soft charcoal-like smoke.

M: Medium bodied, creamy, and full. Moderate seltzery carbonation is a bit distracting, but it works its way out of the beer after is sits for a little while. A little too light in the mouth, I would like it to have a little more body.

O: Great coffee taste, but the base beer lacks a little character.

Notes: Not bad. A tweak of two and they might have a really special beer.

22oz bottle poured into a Hair of the Dog tulip.

A - Dark brown opaque. Big dark tan head, lots of carbonation. Leaves decent lacing.

S - Sweet coffee upfront. I guess this should be what you expect from this beer. A little bit of a sharpness to like you get from a really cabonated soda.

T - That sharpness comes out first (almost acidic??), then blends with the sweet malts with a strong coffee flavor to finish. When the acid starts to blend with the sweet aspect it almost reminds you of pasilla chiles (spicy and peppery)

M - Light to medium, which I did not expect. Very light on the tongue from the carbonation, then ends a bit watery.

D - High. Lots of carbonation and watery finish. The 8.5%ABV is not very noticable.

Not what I expected. Was looking for heavy rich coffee porter (maybe along the lines of Black Butte XXIII). Was over-carbonated for me and that seem to give it a acidic "sting".

A: Well, either I poured wrong, or this beer just has a ton of head. I ended up with a 6 finger head that dissipates slow at first, but then picks up and leaves a super dark colored body with a big bubbly head that's mocha in color with tan notes here and there.

S: Mild dark chocolate notes with quite a bit of dark roasted coffee and malts, lots of malts.

T: Distinct coffee notes are very present in the taste along with unsweetened dark chocolate notes. There's a little bit of lactose present and some other light sweetness present.

M: Medium body with a medium-high amount of carbonation. In my own personal opinion the carbonation slightly detracts from the overall flavors.

O: Overall, quite good, perhaps one of the better coffee flavored beers that I've had in terms of coffee-ness, I'd probably buy it again if I wanted to show a friend a good example of a coffee "flavored" beer.

a: This looked like a stout, it had a completely black body with no highlights. It poured with a large, creamy tan colored head.

s: Fairly mild overall with soft coffee aromas plus some chocolate a hint of lactic sourness.

t: Mellow coffee flavor without the bitterness balanced nicely by milk chocolate sweetness and that signature porter sourness. This had some warmth overall, but the 8.5% abv was very well incorporated.

m: Big bodied with ample, creamy carbonation.

o: Without a date on the bottle I can't say how old this was. It certainly isn't a coffee bomb, but this well crafted beer struck a very nice balance. Thanks Eric, this was good stuff.

This beer poured out as a black looking brew. The head was thin and tan. Not a whole lot of lacing going on here. The smell of the beer was roasted with some elements of coffee on the nose. The taste of the beer had a big malts base and had some subtle coffee tones to it, also a little bit of chocolate too. The mouthfeel was pretty carbonated which left a tingle inside the mouth. Overall the beer was decent. Can't say I'd run out to get more but I would probably have it again if it was offered to me.
