Jasper 22/7 2018. 50 cl on tap on Jasper Brewing’s Brewpub. As “Japer the Bear Ale”. While waiting for Via Rail (again). Served with a little slice of lemon just to make me suspicious.

Pours slightly hazy amber. Small white head. Settles as a thin, patchy layer of foam. Very moderate lacing. Aroma is sweetish with strong sour notes. Subtle Honey sweetness, robust caramel, sour berries.

Light carbonation. Medium thick, Soft texture. Flavor is more sour than sweet. Light sweetness followed by medium sour bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter sour. Lingering.

A Honey Beer where the Honey is only allowed a modest role. More fruity, berry and sour.

Can purchased and drank at the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre in Alberta, Canada.

This one pours a clear golden orange color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like lemon, clove, and honey.

This is pretty crisp and refreshing, with a light honey sweetness, a touch of clovey and floral bitterness, and some lemon and light hop bitterness.

This is light bodied, clean, and pretty drinkable.

This is fairly straightforward, but enjoyable without any major flaws.

355ml can poured into tulip.

Pours a clear bright yellow with two fingers of dirty white head that leaves a soapy film of lace as it recedes.

Smells of rising bread dough, crisp grainy malt, muddled orchard fruit, coriander and some leafy, grassy hops.

Tastes of bread drizzled with honey, apple skin, faint dusted spices and more grassy green hops.

Feels light and fizzy. Light bodied with peppy carbonation. Finishes dry.

Verdict: Recommended. Tasty and refreshing, perfect for desperately trying to enjoy the last days of nice weather.

355ml can, sporting the new retro Canada Parks branding. Brewed at Big Rock in Calgary, presumably once again for the packaging advantages.

This beer pours a clear, pale golden yellow colour, with four fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy off-white head, which leaves some decent layered streaky lace around the glass as it very slowly recedes.

It smells of bready and doughy cereal malt, honeyed crackers, faint coriander spice, a subtle earthy yeastiness, and some plain leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, some apple and pear fruitiness, clover honey, muddled earthy spice, and more well understated leafy, herbal, and musty floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly active in its swirling and twirling frothiness, the body an adequate medium weight, and generally smooth, with perhaps a touch of spice making a nick in the surface sheen here. It finishes off-dry, the complex malt pretty much showing the most lingering fervour.

Overall - this comes across more or less as promised, a malty blonde ale with some honey and coriander spice. Crisp, and easy enough to put back, however, after a few of them, I would start craving something with a little more hop bitterness to it.

Poured from the tap had hardly any head or lacing. Clean amber look. Scent is the highlight of this ale with the honey malt coming out strong and the coriander hint providing an enjoyable character. However the taste lets down the scent however with maybe the coriander hitting a bit too bitter but points for uniqueness. Mouthfeel smooth with the alcoholish mixed coriander bitterness hanging out at the end.

Overall it is as advertised but not as exciting as it could be throughout the experience.

Draft into pint glass. Pours a golden amber with a decent off white head. Initial impression is honey and malt. Not exactly my cup of tea, but hey - it fits the description. Mouthfeel is medium as is carbonation. Finish has an odd chemical taste.
