This town once had 11 breweries now half that. Schloderer is a new commer (25 years) since most of the other breweries are 150+ years old. It is modern yet classic and the food and the rotating beers will keep you busy. Recommended.

As with everybody else that has reviewed this establishment I stumbled upon it by accident. I was walking down towards the platz for a German American friendship event. There was an older gentleman outside handing out free samples it was packed so I went back a little later and paid for my beer and it was worth it. The atmosphere was outstanding. There was definitely an old Bavarian vibe and a ton of beertiques. It was clean and there was so much beautiful wood work and copper in a small place it almost overwhelming. The beer quality is on tap and in cask so you know it is good. I had a little bit of a differing opinion of the service than the other two raters. The old man and this very young girl that were working there that were awesome. There was also a very rude old lady and another young that just liked staring at us and when we asked for another beer she really snappy. The selection was their beer and a few other local beers.

Amberg is a very atttractive small town within city walls, less than a mile across and easy to explore on foot from the station.
Schloderer Brau Brew Pub is less than 15 mins from the Station and easy to spot just as you come to the main Town Hall square and markets.
Inside courtyard with tables and chairs, the brew pub to the rear and right hand side, together with a coffee shop and restaurant, with other shops around the courtyard. Very attractive and peaceful surroundings.
Inside the brew pub stube plenty of seating in two main rooms, with a good view of the polished copper working brew kettles and equipment, usually being attended to by the staff.
Service was good and some English spoken. At time of visit Schloderer Hell and Dunkel beers available, plus HefeWeiss and a Seasonal beer, all on tap, also Kummert Pils and other beers by the bottle.
Larger quantities of Schloderer beers could be purchased - 10 litre casks for example.
The Hells and Weiss were both excellent and reasonable prices 2.60 - 2.70 a half litre.
A must visit when in Amberg, not least for the interesting interior - the beers also well worth searching out.
Highly recommended.

Took a day trip to Amberg; hadn't been in quite a few years. Had hit a couple of brewpubs years ago, but was looking for something new, especially since my old fave, Malteser, is no longer brewing. Walked around downtown and stumbled upon this place purely by accident. Going past the Rathaus, I saw the sign leading to Schloderer. What's up with that?! Gots to check it!!
The entrance, as shown in the pic, is via an archway on the street. Through there leads to a courtyard with other businesses, and then to Schloderer in the rear. There are a few tables/chairs outside making up their Biergarten. Enter the door, and you have a left or right choice. Left leads to a small kaffee-haus they also operate, so right is the way to go! Following that path leads to a rather large, medium-lit room with about 8 or so various-sized tables for 4 to 10 people each. There is a service bar at the immediate left. Behind the bar, and a bit around back to the left are the brew kettles, which extend up through an open space to a second floor. A spiral staircase in the back left leads upstairs, where you can gaze down from a balcony upon the kettles. More tables and another bar are upstairs, along with a small, dark-wood-panelled room which looks hundreds of years old. Back downstairs, there are lots of copper pipes along the ceiling from the tanks heading to the bar/taps. The place has bier pics, bottles, mugs and brewing-related equipment attached to the walls. Place has a great vibe, save for the lame pop music playing. Service was solid and friendly; no qualms there at all. Biers available were a Hell, Dunkel, Hefeweizen and a seasonal Märzen; some biers from the local Kummert Bräu were also on the menu. The Märzen was real nice! REAL nice!! A more-than-decent place in a very picturesque little town.
Zum Wohl!!
