Review from notes taken on 2/6/11 at the brewpub (Maryland location.) This offering is described as the miner's daughter oatmeal stout with local coffee added.
Served in a pint glass, this brew appears dark brown with lighter brown and reddish hues with clarity around the edges. A quick dissolving tan head leaves a spotty amount of lace on the glass.
The aroma of this brew includes a light roasted coffee scent with a bit of citrus that seems to come from a combination of hops and the coffee. Also included is some fair chocolate malt and a mild sweetness.
The taste includes a flavor of mild roasted grain bitterness couple with the coffee addition. A bit of citrus and lingering musty grain that is earthy and much more citrus-like than the uncoffeed version of this brew. Finishes fairly clean with a light residual flavor of coffee.
This is a medium bodied offering with a bit of a watery feel. It is lightly carbonated. Fairly drinkable but quite mild for the style, as expected (like base beer) it does not display the typical smoothness or grainy character expected from the oats. Worth giving a try but an average offering.
