On tap at SLO Brewing Company in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Pours a clear dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and slight coffee aromas. Taste is much the same with a mild roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is drinkable and pretty solid.

Appearance: Looks like flat cola. Very thin and somewhat transparent. No head, even when swirled. Obviously no lacing either. Looks downright terrible. Worst looking oatmeal stout I've ever come across.

Smell: Dark chocolate, salty oats, and some odd BMC-like staleness. Pretty faint overall.

Taste: Salty oats, black coffee, bits of dark chocolate, and piney hops. Not bad, but the saltiness and lack of originality hurt this one.

Mouthfeel: As expected, thin and flat. Carbonation is pretty damn light and flavor leaves the mouth almost instantly. It was really hard analyzing the taste when I couldn't remember what it tasted like just a second before. Really lacking in depth and creaminess. Doesn't finish very dry either.

Drinkability: As with most of DTB's brews, lack of character works in their favor. Most of the beers I've had here taste pretty similar, and this is no exception. Light in flavor and very unoriginal, but very easy to down.

I remember first really being stoked to have their oatmeal stout, the appearance was finally laced around the edge of the cup, with a very dark appearance, hits of red to the light. The smell, was semi rich, had a strong malt smell, a hint of sweet chocolate.
The taste was the complete disappointment on all levels. It taste like it had been completely water-down, none of the flavors carried through, only a slight taste of the some of the malt comes out. The mouth feel added to the discomfort, almost no carbonation, and leaves a lackluster taste in your mouth.
You could have easily told me it was guinness that was opened left in somebodies fridge over night and then served the next day, and I would have believed you.
