On tap at SLO Brewing Company in San Luis Obispo, CA.
Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, coffee, and slight cocoa aromas. Taste is much the same with a very nice cookie dough flavor. There is a mild roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp but medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer that is really tasty and easy to drink.

Poured fresh from a growler, appears black, with a fluffy brown head, good lacing. Wonderful roasted coffee aromas, with dark bitter chocolate and a mild sweetness. This is a kickass porter, with stout like qualities. Full bodied, creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Taste is wonderfully balanced with smooth carbonation. Roasted malt, espresso and molasses. Hops add a touch of bitterness. Amazing porter from SLO. Easily their best beer.

The deer after it decamps from the 12-ounce brown bottle sets in the glass a brown to almost black color with an average sized semi-creamy light chocolate head and after its decomposition the lace forms a nice concealing sheet upon the glass. Nose is nicely toasted grains, sweet and fresh with the start sweet and a decent malt presence, the top is moderate in its feel to the palate. Finish is benignly acidic, the hops pleasantly spicy with the aftertaste dry, a nice drinkable porter.

Last tasted at the brewery on tap this fall. It was a very dark brown, almost black. The smell was very pleasant with the aroma of malt's and hop's. The taste was a sweet malty, hoppy, sweet/bitter combination and well balance. I like this porter and only can judge it on its merits out of the tap! Going back in the winter to test there other beers that are on tap only!

Presentation: 12 oz brown longneck bottle with no freshness date.
Appearance: Nearly black with a reddish brown hue, quickly dissipating head that falls to a thin tan lace with minimal stickiness.
Smell: Black iced coffee, mild roasted character with a soft sweetness. Hint of coarse hop in the aroma also.
Taste: Smooth mouth feel and carbonation with a medium to full body that shows off a moderate chewy malt. Burnt and roasted malt flavours of molasses and espresso reassure that is this indeed a porter. Malt sweetness is well rounded and holds the brew together. Hops are sturdy and leave a semi coarse bitterness and a mildly pungent oily citric flavour that lingers just as far as the roasted character. Clean bitter roasted and hop tie up the finish.
Notes: A pleasurable robust porter with a big American flare of hop personality. Pairs well with dry rubbed rosemary lamb cops and roasted root vegetables. 6.0% abv.
