Six Pence Pub

This a good looking pub. There are a few tables outside by the front door, these are great for people watching.

The group I was with sat at the bar. I would say it seats about 16 folks. Plenty of tables if you want a more restaurant like experience.

The interior is as attractive as the exterior. It is warm with lots of wood, tin ceilings, antiques and old prints, etc.

They offered maybe a dozen taps. These are mix of macros, crafts and major imports. More selections in bottles and cans.

Service was nice and attentive.

Well worth a stop!

Super authentic British pub in a charming part of town. Great decor with antique signs, framed portraits, gingham wallpaper, the works. Low tin ceiling, rustic wood tables, a bar with seats for a dozen or more.

Beer selection was ok, a few token imports and local craft beers to be had. I settled on a Wells Bombardier and a Märzen from Service Brewing, Teufel Hunden. No head on the beers, probably too much sanitizer in the glasses. The "pint" option appeared to be served in a 14 oz. glass, and 20 oz. was a little small too.

Service was great, our server Sam was very helpful and personable. Offered a to-go cup for the remaining half pint, which was fun.

Food was decent, we stuck to apps which were ok. Brie and Scotch eggs, both passable. They serve a hearty meal from the looks of other plates.

Overall it was a fun stop for the authentic pub decor and a quick beer.

 

English style pub vibe with long bar and 24 pulls. Pub grub menu, but did not eat. Place was packed, inside and outside on a Wednesday afternoon. In the heart of the tourist traffic. A few local/GA beers on tap, but mostly The usual - Guinness etc from abroad, and InBev distro, with a Lagunitas thrown in for good measure. Hardworking staff/bartender. I'd pop in again for a beer.

 

The only English pubs I've visited that are more authentic than this one are in England. Bull Street in Savannah has a somewhat European feel to it and this pub seems to fit right in. The menu features a combination of classic English pub food and American favorites. There is a pretty good selection of English beers in bottles and on draught, although not much American craft beer. But American craft beer isn't what this place is about. It's fun and we always stop in when we visit Savannah.

 

 

 

 

Somehow, with all the history in the area, this place sort of fits in. An English style pub that sits in the historic district.

Small place. When you walk in you notice the dark wood and a couple of TV's. Small bar area and some tables.

Bartender was friendly and attentive [it was a Sunday night, so not busy, which may have helped.]

On tap: bass, boddingon, belhaven, newcastle, harp, guiness, stella.
Bottles: hobgoblin, hoegarden, weihestephaner, Wexfod, lancaster, etc.

Nice, comfortable place to go for a pint. Not a great beer bar, but worth a go if you are in the area.

I have mixed feelings about this. First off, I'm not sure why this is even on BA as a place, because their selection's extremely limited to the normal brews you'd see at a pub, in addition to the requisite Sweetwater 420. Guinness. Stella. Blue Moon, etc. Nothing more in bottles. Nothing more in the few taps.

Do they get away with the high prices because there was a Julia Roberts movie filmed here? Had I known my Macallan 12 was going to be $9, I would've said "No thanks." Not only that, but the waitress made sure that the shot was a shot with a capital S before she poured it into my glass. Seriously, almost $10 for a shot, when I can snag the bottle for around $45? Just seemed outrageous to me. And the beer wasn't much cheaper either, at around $5 a pint. I know, I know. I get it, but I still think these places can be a little less snooty if they had some kind of happy hour at least, or if the pints were around $4.

Also, it was almost like the waitress was annoyed at us because we weren't eating, which was a bit weird and uncomfortable.

That said, it's a cool place to go to have "a" drink or "a" beer, but bring your wallet if you're going to do anything but beer. The bar's cool, yes, and the decorations are cool and British-looking and whatnot, but for my money and time, there are many other cooler bars in the area (and within a few blocks at that) to check out in Savannah.

After having a beer at Mellow Mushroom, I decided to make the 50 yard walk to Six Pence Pub and have another. My car was already parked, so what the heck?

Typical red phone booth out fron with the Union Jack flag. One weird thing here was the music selection. It didnt seem British; it was american rock, disco, and other assorted styles. It was certainly different.

The beer selection was Boddingtons, Guinness, Harp, Bass, Sweetwater 420, Newcastle, etc. I had the Boddingtons and a pint was $4.80 after tax. A bit steep me thinks.

The atomsphere seemed okay. I normally see more secluded booths and a darker atmosphere in British-type pubs; this one seemed more Americanized than most British pubs.

Not a bad place, I guess, but Molly Macphersons is a much better place to go for your "British Isles" feel.

A very nice laid back pub serving the most know beers on tap. Very nice atmosphere almost reminds me of England type pubs only serving pints. Quality is only what is what you recieve and service is average. Selection of most well know beer is what is offered, I started with Guiness. I didn't get in to the food but by the end of the Ghost pub tour I knew i should have!
A very clean and nice place to start a night of drinking (with the plastic open container law) and great placement in the city I highly recommend this pub.

This place it more visual affect and atomosphere. It's a cute little place and actually was a film location for "Something to talk about" with Julia Roberts. went there with my exgf and we had a good time. I would go back again but at the time it was not too happening on a wednesday night. Love Savannah and love the bar. I would recomend but don;t expect to much.

value - decent for a tourist place.

Six Pence presents the quintessential pub front, with multipane windows, outdoor seating on the sidewalk, a red phone booth, and dark trim punctuated by gold lettering spelling out the name of the establishment. Its location on Bull street just down from one of Savannah's famous squares adds to the effect, and the drinker would truly believe he/she were walking into an English local were it not for the Spanish Moss hanging from ancient oaks along the road.
The interior is cozy, with tartan wallpaper, a collection of royal/British/historical figure china and teacups in cases, a decent bar, and stacks of expat newspapers available for free. (Obviously a decent sign that the claims to authenticity are legit.)
The menu is fine, with decent pub fare available, but for whatever reason (I heard they didn't have a frier, but that hasn't been authenticated) the "expected" fish and chips were not available. The scotch eggs are tasty as well.
Overall, this is an ideal local watering hole, and worth the trip for a visit if you're in the area or looking for a bite to eat. My disappointment over the somewhat limited import selection and, however trivial sounding, fried fish is always tempered by the cozy facade and interior, and the opportunity to sit outside, sip a pint and take in Savannah's charm.
