Brown 500ml bottle-conditioned example, best before End of July 2008, drank 19th Aug 2008, a bit later than the brewery wanted me to drink it!
The label asked me to serve it cool not cold (11-13 degrees C), so I did.
Poured into a pint sleeve glass it showed a dark, deep Ruby body with not much of a wispy tan head above. the head soon just became a collar around the glass, but at least it stayed the whole drink.
The first aroma was of cooking apples with extra sour tones, this gave way to some malty smells as the beer warmed.
The taste was a mixed bag of Balsamic Vinegar, Root Liquorice and off Dark Chocolate.
Not smooth or rich, this is a 5.6% dark ale that is closer to semi-skimmed milk than it is to full cream.
Overall not too impressed. I have three more beers from this brewery to review, I hope they get better because I hate to put down the little guy. Maybe the BBD was very accurate and the 19 days over the top effected the beer.

Got this bottle-conditioned beer from the UTOBEER, the beer stall in the Borough Market, London. The BB date is Dec. 05.
A: beautiful ruby hue with an effervescent thick beige beer head; the texture of the cap is tight and frothy, showing very solid sign of live-yeast support in this bottle-conditioned ale.
S: initially its slightly astringent and fruity, full of tart forest berries; after a while a more profound, dark malty overtone emerges (with some toffee and very dark chocolates), going hand in hand with a woody and damp yeasty aroma along with a mild note of oxidation and some sour pineapple fruitiness, though not OTT.
T: just a little sweet dark maltiness upfront with plenty of tart dark fruitsblack plums, smoked mountain black-prunes, combined with an a slightly sharp roasted maltiness, a tinge of roasted nuttiness, soapy yeast, charred wood-chip flavour, more semi-sweet nuttiness of raw hazelnuts lingering at the back, etc. A slightly clashing mouthfeel stays on the palate in the end, leading to a short finish with not much bitterness.
M&D: quite smooth on the palate, and as the yeasty edge softens bit by bit, the nuttiness provides all the softness and joy in the aftertaste. A very solid brew it is, though I can't quite place what kind of beer it's meant to be~~
