I've never fully understood the expression, "fair to midland." But if it's understood to mean "adequate" or "OK", I'll apply it here. Ellersick's Copper Ale is essentially an amber with a negligible caramel aroma, pronounced caramel flavor, and a slight nuttiness and wet leafiness. The copper body with minimal lather further suggests an English bitter lineage.

Had this beer on tap at Sorelli Pizza in Mountlake Terrace, about 2 miles from the brewery.
Appearance: clear; medium brown in color. Basically no head, but this was probably due to the pour.
Smell: nice caramel malt aroma with a little hazelnut; the flavor reminded me of a nut brown ale. Not much in the way of hop aroma.
Taste: very similar to the aroma: caramel-ey malt with some hazelnut flavor. A little bitterness but not much hop character.
Mouthfeel: medium body with pretty good carbonation. Not particularly notable, but certainly not bad.
Drinkability: actually a pretty good low-key session amber. From a drinkability standpoint, the whole of this beer is better than the sum of its parts.
