Nice clear copper color with a full light beige head, nice active carbonation, and nice lace. Nice spicy malt aroma and flavor with a bit of earthy and woody character. Light-medium bodied with a spicy dry malt finish.

An OK S&M offering but not worth buying the mixed pack just to get this one...

poured a crystal clear garnet color with white puffy head that rapidly fell to a thin ring. Smell is unique and difficult to describe. It seems to me to be a mixture of oranges and cloves. Somewhat appealing, but not overly. Taste is mildly fruity with a distinct hop background. Finishes with a strong bitterness bit the fruity taste intrudes and limits its enjoyment. The only time I will every try this beer.

Pours a two-finger white head that fades quickly but leaving a good lace. Clear amber (no red ) color. Couldn't get much of a nose. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Starts and finishes with more hops than malts but nothing overpowering. Great for a bottle collector but otherwise it's a pass. 12oz bottle from 12pak - $15.59 Tully's Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

For a red ale this isnt very red. Nice color but pretty standard as far as beer goes. Good poster child for a non macro. Low aroma-really nothing there-quite neutral. I detect a very faint fruitiness. Flavor is malty though has an underlying soapiness to it. Very plastic like. Ok body. Id pass on this one. Im annoyed by the deceptive packaging and some of the displays I have seen for this beer and the variety packs it comes in. The bock was enjoyable but this one is way weak.

Pours with a 1 finger head of lightly packed small and medium off-white bubbles which slowly thin. The color of a new penny. Smells faintly sweet and slightly malty with holiday spicy/nutty. Moderate carbonation with light hop crispness followed by a slightly sweet finish. Medium body. Nothing distinctive and similar to the other Scrooge and Marley offerings.

A Scrooge & Marley mixed case showed up at the store the other day, and none of us, nor Beer Advocate, had ever heard of it. The bottle says it's from the "Scrooge & Marley Brewing Co., Monroe, WI" and that it is from a group of "limited edition seasonal brews from one of the oldest breweries in America." Well shit, who hasn't heard of the famous S&M Brewery? Coincidentally, the Huber Brewery is also in Monroe and also touts itself as one of the oldest breweries in America. And what's this, written very small on the bottom of the box yet mysteriously not found anywhere on the bottle labels? Ah yes, www.scroogeandmarleygifts.com. It's beginning to come together: Gift company contracts with Huber to brew some name-brand beer to sell through their holiday catalogues to unsuspecting old people. Onto the mysterious beer itself...

The Red Ale is a yellowish brown color with a mealy yellow head. It smells way too caramelly sweet, with a touch of mustiness. Tastes a little better, caramelly still with a touch of apple. Mouthfeel is a little dryish. Utterly boring.
