a very tasty porter here, served on nitro. not particularly interesting or distinct, but tastes good, smells good, and seems well made to me, kind of lines up well next to an irish dry stout, has a lot of that deep earthy roast to it without a lot of sweetness to balance, so on the more robust end, even though its tame and smooth with the nitro, there is a lot of flavor here. dark chocolate, a touch of yeast character and even a little astringency for a second when it warms up, cola and root beer nuance, some burnt coffee too, kind of a european thing to the grain, but relatively simple beer, and i prefer it colder, fresh poured, its tighter and more together then. the nitro really makes this for me, i was feeling it, and im not sure id love it as much without this texture, but its cohesive and good as it is, a mellow drinker with a lot of flavor. well refined, and satisfying. i still havent had much from flathead lake, but this one is certainly encouraging. its amazing how robust the beer scene is all over montana these days!

A: Had this on tap at the Iron Horse in Missoula. Poured a dark black color, good sized tan head, good lacing down the glass
S: Chocolate maltly scents are very abundant
T: Slightly smokey, also has the chocolatey flavors there. Good tasing beer
M: Smooth easy drinking, possibly a little overcarbonated
D: Good porter, very tasty. Would have this again if I could find it in my area

Stumbled across this small microbrewery and tasting room on our recent trip through Montana and had to sample each of their 3 offerings.
An as-of-yet unnamed porter, the brewery is having a "Name the Porter" contest where the winner would get a keg of beer.
Served in a logoed Flathead Lake pint glass, this is a deep dark colored ale. Mocha colored foam over a black liquid. Coffee and chocolate aromas fill the nose. Taste is also well balanced with lots of complexity. More coffee, cocoa, with just a touch of hops to keep it from becoming overpowering. Full bodied mouthfeel, delicious. A very good porter, and nice fit with their other offerings that include a pale ale and scottish amber.
If you are headed past Flathead Lake, definatley worth a stop.

This is owner Terry Leonard’s favorite beer! Try to imagine a very tiny chocolate, coffee-like, miniature beer grenade exploding in your mouth. This ale is deep and complex and it's in need of a proper name. We will be having a "Name our Porter" contest at the Grand Opening...so stay tuned to our website for details as the lucky winner takes home their very own keg of beer!

ROBUST PORTER – The style features a moderately strong malt flavor, derived from black malt (chocolate/coffee flavors). The hop bitterness is low, yet present to create a harmonious balance that is complimented by a full body and mouth feel. Robust Porter is a style that is open to the brewer's interpretation; it may be distinguished from the style STOUT as lacking a strong roasted barley character. Our Brew Master has designed a robust porter that is delicious, and appreciated by beer novices and connoisseurs alike. This ale is great to recommend with dessert.
