LOOK: Darker than expected, a fair amount of German two row barley perhaps employed with pilsner malts to make a brew that is just a shade or two closer to gold than amber. A pillowy, rocky white head that withstands substantial and continued sips does not diminish which is impressive.
AROMA: Clean malts and noble hops. Smells like a clean, crisp Geran influenced lager, Penn yeast, pretty solid smell for a pils or lager style beer.
TASTE: Pilsner malts, some noble hops, and some cereal grains are poking through making for a light, quaffable if not a bit "normal" beer. It drinks easily and fluently, without leaving much more than a kiss of hops in the aftertaste.
FEEL: Soft carbonation, though poured a bit heady with a slow careful pour. Drinks smoothly, reminds me a bit of a kellerbier at this stage and judging by the reviews it seems to be a plus this bottle could be aged. Its smooth and light, with subtle flaws and graces along the way.
OVERALL: This has been a long time hunt to find, being a local beer enthusiast for quite some time had to buy. Honestly, Penn doesn't make a whole plethora of German influenced beers in their newer products in bottle, so I jumped at the chance to find this baby whale. Keep in mind I am a local beer Penn head and a ticker and if those situations were not so, I would not have gone out of my way to try this or whatnot. I was happy to try. OK
