A strong, full-bodied, surprisingly light colored beer with smooth, mellow texture. Introduced every year in May.

Poured a murky medium copper hue with a half finger foamy white head. There was decent retention and lacing.

The smell featured an earthy cereal grain, dark fruits and some yeast esters.

The taste consisted of a full spicy malt, dark fruits, caramel and an herbal hop.

The mouthfeel was full bodied and slightly chewy.

Overall very complex and toward the maltier side of the style.

This is my first for this style. Got it at the brewery on draft. WOW! Very nice appearance. Deep gold color with a nice white head that sticks around quite nicely. The smell is of sweet malt. The taste is a very, very full flavored sweet malt goodness, balanced with the perfect amount of bitterness from the hops. The color of this beer just does not prepare you for the full flavor here. Must be the higher alcohol content, although it is dangerously well hidden. Very nice mouthfeel. Smooth and easy drinking all around. It is hard to believe the abv is so high.

Served at Penn Brewery into a pint glass. The color was golden, with a wispy white head. The smell was a sweet caramel malt. The taste was a strong caramel/honey sweetness, balanced by just the right mix of the Hallertau hops. Mouthfeel was average. As for drinkability, this would be excellent, and I don't think I'd tire of this one very quickly at all.

A truly fantastic offering from Penn. A nice sweetness, and superior to the other Maibocks I've had so far this season. Quite good, and though it's sold out at Penn (unsurprisingly), I'm sure I'll run into it again at the numerous other bars carrying it.

Fond memories of this classic draft only from Penn Brewing, we used to go to Fuel and Fuddle for their food, small but quality tap selection, and pretty extensive bottle menu. One night when we headed to Oakland, we got to F and F and they had this on tap at a dollar a draft as a special Kick the Keg night. That was an experience, anyway this one forms with a somewhat thin white head and a deep golden body thin specks of lacing. Aroma consists of a clean herbal hop nose with a warming alcohol tones and malt sweetness with an air of fruit chilling in the layers of goodness offered by this brew. Flavor is sweet honey tinged fruit notes followed by a rolling bitterness in the flavor crisp refreshing alcohol can creep up on you in this one. Mouthfeel: Light medium body range great slight sticky texture, nice beer. Drinkability: Awesome spring seasonal that I look forward to each year to hunt down on draft, a cut above most other maibocks I've had.

Bright gold, topped by a long lasting white head. The aroma is sweet and malty, and very inviting. It almost smells like a sweet perfume. The taste is more of the same, with a sweet malt flavor being balanced by nice hops. Wonderful fruitiness is accented by a touch of alcohol. The mouthfeel is very smooth, and the drinkability is much too good for this maibock, as the apparent higher gravity will catch up with you quickly. This is a fantastic brew from Penn, one of their draft-only offerings.
