I had this at the brewery on-tap as well as by the growler. It pours a red/amber color. A short-lived 1/4 inch tan head from a reduces to a nice lacing. Minimal carbonation and no sediment is noticeable.
The aroma is primarily that of caramel and dark fruity malts. A nice level of yeasty bread is in the background as well as a fair amount of citrus from the hops.
The taste is similar to the smell with some caramel malts and dark fruit. The hops it definitely more present here with a level of bitterness.
The mouthfeel is somewhat soft initially with a quick crisp component that follows. It starts out smooth but seems to fade quickly and leaves a very minimal dryness on the palate. I do not know the ABV and it is well hidden but I can tell you that it is fairly high from the after effect.
Overall, I think this is a good dopplebock. There are certainly rooms for improvement including the push from the caramel and a stronger aroma and more intense mouthfeel. Still the same, I live near this brewery and will enjoy it when it comes out.
