Poured from a growler into a pint glass. It pours a deep/dark brown and is opaque when held to the light. A 1/8 inch tan head forms and reduces quickly to a mild lacing.
The aroma is primarily that of sweet malts and coffee. There is a mild amount of smokiness that is not up front. Some cherry notes, although not prominent.
The taste is good with an up front malty component, then some smoke, and followed by a coffee bitterness. The smoke could be more aggressive.
The mouthfeel was very good. It is medium bodied with a good level of carbonation that balances the taste well. A nice bitter/dry component lingers.
Overall, this is a fairly drinkable beer. I don't know what the ABV is, but is does not present significantly in the taste. The taste is also clean and not overwhelming, allowing the opportunity for more than one.

Very fresh, launched today at the brewpub, stopped and had one pint glass.
Briess malting of Chilton, WI, made the cherry smoked malt that was used here.
Quite dark, but not black, it has a tan head with good retention.
The aroma is more porter than smoked beer, roasted malts, some coffee, perhaps a faint hint of cherry, subtle smokiness.
Medium bodied, it is one fine porter, although I was expecting a more robust smoked flavor. It is definitely there, but as the advertisement even suggested some blends if the smoke is a bit too much, I was expecting something closer to a rauchbier.
It is certainly worthwhile nonetheless, with an added kick over your regular porter.
