From a cask into a pint glass, the beer was a very dark brown/black color with a medium tan head.
Chocolate, roasted malt, and vanilla aroma.
The vanilla came more forward in the taste. Also espresso and some chocolate.
Very smooth.
Enjoyed this beer. Probably my favorite of the Woodstock Inn beers.

Pulled from a cask into a pint glass.
A: Black body with flecks of deep ruby when held up to the light; one inch of light, frothy, tan head recedes fairly quickly, but is some of the better retention I've seen for a cask ale. Little lace.
S: Smooth vanilla, dark chocolate, roasted malts; sweet, smooth, and very appealing.
T: Smooth, sweet, chocolate and vanilla, with a nice touch of coffee bitterness on the finish. Robust and delicious.
M: Medium-bodied and smooth as silk.
D: A tad on the sweet side to be super-quaffable, but otherwise very easy-drinking.
Notes: Lots of flavors similar to Young's Double Chocolate Stout, but with a fuller body and added complexity from the vanilla beans - not to mention the lovely cask smoothness. By far the best offering from Woodstock right now, IMO.
Cheers!
