Störtebeker Übersee-Pils
Pours a pale golden color with a bigger, spongy head atop.
Aromas are defined by fresh cut grass with a spicy, almost wooden noble hop quality to it among lighter citrus peel and crushed grains.
Offers a pleasantly light body with a higher, effervescent carbonation level, creating a thirst quenching quality.
Tastes of an immediate dryness, layered into leaves, grass and wood, accompanied by crackers and lighter white bread dough. Has a bitter middle part, revealing a short lime glance among humble grain and dough defined malts. Finishes with a fulfilling spicy dry- and crispness among a light malt backbone, creating a longer lasting bitterness on the tongue.
This is a great Pilsener with a fantastic balance and dryness to it.

Störtebeker Braumanufaktur “Übersee-Pils”
,5L brown glass bottle coded “Mindestens haltbar bis: 15.04.2022 1LN 2001414”. Sampled on 04.10.21.
Look: Mostly clear golden body beneath a full head of frothy white foam. Excellent head retention and very good lacing with wide rings left after every quaff.
Smell: Grassy, bready, sweetish, floral, and very mildly fruity.
Taste: Bready, grainy, and grassy malty backed by floral and mildly fruity hops with a stiff backbone of bitterness. It finishes dry but not bone-dry, with some mildly herbal hops and bitterness lingering once the malt has faded.
Feel: Medium bodied and crisp with a fine-bubbled carbonation.
Overall: My first impression was that this was a fairly basic German Pilsner somewhere between the northern Germany and southern German styles but there’s definitely something different about it - and that’s in the hops. It’s got a very slight American twist to it, and I’m assuming that in order to keep it palatable to all, or mainly for traditional German bier drinkers, it doesn’t stray too far into overseas territory. It’s very well made, nicely balanced, and interesting… but not too interesting.

Beer #10 in the KALEA Beer Advent Calendar. Thanks Kevin and Nicole. 330 ml bottle with an awesome looking ship on the label. Served at cellar temperature into a pint glass.
Appearance - Fairly pale golden hued brew, great clarity and lots of effervescence. Topped by a finger of loose head with middling staying power.
Smell - Some earthy notes, hints of metal and finishes with a robust greassy aroma and hints of bready. Possibly a perfumey aspect throughout. Not necessarily a cohesive aroma.
Taste - Hints of grapefruit or lemon, a little more citrus bang here. Otherwise some bittering hops and the consensus grainy and bready aspect.
Mouthfeel - Pretty dry finish, good crisp carbonation, medium-light body.
Overall - A pretty solid take on the German pils, a little extra fruity hops is compensated for a slightly metallic nose. Solid if unspectacular.
