Störtebeker Braumanufaktur GmbH “Keller-Bier 1402”
,5L brown glass bottle, “Mindestens haltbar bis: 17.05.2022”. Sampled on 26.09.21
€1 @ Tomis Supermarkt, Bacharach, DE
Look: Hazy golden in color beneath a full head of bright white foam. Very good head retention and lacing.
Smell: Floral, citrusy with orange, and mildly spicy and herbal over a golden malt base.
Taste: The malt remains constrained while the hops are surprisingly bright (by German standards anyway). It’s fruity with sharp red apple, and the floral, citrusy, herbal, and spicy/peppery hops remain. A firm bitterness balances it and it finishes dry with some woody/earthy notes and a touch of pine lingering.
Feel: Medium bodied and crisp.
Overall: A unique change of pace with some hop characteristics that aren’t usually found in German beers.

From the bottle, it pours a lightly hazy light straw color with a generous white head that lasts. Grassy scent in the nose. In the mouth, it is pleasant and lightly bready with a touch of spice. It finishes slightly bitter. Nice beer!

Pours a cloudy yellow color with a small top of white head that dissolves rapidly. Aroma is of grass, hay, earth, bread, citrus, herbs and flowers but is in the weak side. The taste is sweet with floral, grassy and citric notes ,while in the back is a feel of light malts and bread. The finish is slightly bitter with a decent lenght in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is crisp and clean with a medium carbonation and medium body. All in all is a decent enough kellerbier, but nothing very exiting about it.

Pours a hazy, bright golden color with a small, froth white head.
Smells of straw, wet grass, roasted corn and white bread crust.
Has a soft, lively carbonation, complimenting to a refreshing, light bodied beer, which produces the right amount of crispness.
Tastes pleasantly dry and leaf defined, together with a sweeter hay note. Gets even dryer during the finish, amped up by the effervescent carbonation, balanced by the white bread malts.
This is really good, dry and crisp, bready with just a malty, sweet peak.

Serving: From the bottle in Berlin on the banks of the Spree
Served: August 2016
The formal review escaped me due to life things, but here's a quick summary: I enjoyed this beer directly from the bottle and was generally pleased. Good malt flavors with a bigger mouthfeel due to the suspended yeast. Hop notes seemed a bit stale though- too much spice and not enough herb. Nonetheless, a good beer from a lesser known brewery.

It just tastes like a lager. There's nothing special about it.

5 months before sell by date.
Bottle is definitely '1402' but is only 4.8 proof. There is a new label too.
Pale pils yellow but a little cloudy. The label says Kellerbier, but this is quite like a pils, a style I know very well - I'm not that familiar with kellerbier ...
A medium frothy head which holds well with good lacing. Carbonation is high which is not so pleasant. Also a little watery (in spite of the flavour).
The style is quite 'pilsy', malt & good citrusy hops, but with a lovely light floral fruity note. [edit] 2019: this has the potential to be a really good pils, but fails for me: the hops _are_ much better than your typical German pils, but still taste too 'mass-produced' for me -- metallic finish is related I think [/edit]
Light but flavourful, drinkable.

This is my very first Keller so I'm not an expert of this particular style.
A - Excellent. Pours a mildly cloudy and yellow liquid (2-3 lovibond units) with a large white and creamy head that is very lasting. Lacing is fair. The body offers sparkling and vivid bubbles.
S - Average malt smell with some hints of straw and white bread. Light smell of yeast and some notes of leaves.
T - Great taste. In the mouth feels vivid and creamy. Leaves a hint of bitterness
M - Creamy, with average carbonation.
O - A very nice Keller, would buy again.

Appearance: pours a cloudy, lemony yellow beer with plenty of yeast with a beautiful foam head.
Smell: white bread, citrus, grassy with a hint of sawdust. Very pleasant.
Taste: bready, citrusy, with a refreshing bitterness that reminds me of birch sap.
Moutfeel: the beer is full-bodied and smooth with plenty of carbonation. Very refreshing.
Overall: perfect for quenching your thirst, not very complex or intriguing but very straight forward and easy to appreciate. Made me want to take big gulps.
Drank it in a Tulip glass.
Will have again.

The colour is cool yellow (5 EBC), the liquid hazy. The finger thick off-white head sinks slowly leaving some lacing.
The smell is fresh and quite bitter with distinct notes of yeast and some sulphur. Hints of metal and dandelions.
The taste is fresh. Sulphur-egg flavours, some yeast and a touch of wheat flour adds depth to the flavours. Clean bitter flavours, some flowers and bitter herbs. Light to medium body. The aftertaste is creamy with elegant hops, some yeast and a touch of dough. It is quite for the style, though. The finish adds a hint of salt.
The carbonation is medium strong; the many small bubbles are fresh. The liquid is smooth and a bit thick.
Not the most complex Kellerbiers I have had, this is perhaps a good introduction to the style.

Classic yellow lightly cloudy german appearnce. Ripe german hops and pilsner malt on the nose. Very fresh tasting, soft malt, again ripe hops and a tangy bitterness on the finish. A pure joy to drink and probably the best example of the style I have had exported outside German soil.
