The guys at The Livery were kind enough to fill a 32 ounce howler of this for me. Reviewed from a 10 ounce snifter after the beer was in the howler for about 36 hours. Chalkboard indicates this is an imperial porter with vanilla beans aged in Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon barrels.

A: This one poured completely flat, which I partially attribute to the screw top growler. I did have a 1 ounce sample poured at the brewery and there was a fairly minimal head on that pour as well. Hesitant to knock the score to much here due to uncertainty regarding whether the lack on head is due to recipe design/brewing technique or being served from a screw top growler. Beer is dark brown and has an oily-looking appearance. Light is able to pass through the edges of the glass.

S: Smell is really nice on this one. Vanilla and bourbon are the first two things that hit the nose. Malt sweetness and slight roastiness are the next things I'm picking up. Aroma gives the impression this will be a nice dessert sipper.

T: Flavor largely follows the nose. Bourbon and oak are up front, quickly followed by vanilla sweetness. Chocolate and a light back-end roastiness round this one out. Much more sweet than roasty with minimal bitterness.

M: This one would rate even higher for me if the mouthfeel was beefed up somewhat. This one is pretty thin, bordering on watery. There is a fair amount of complexity and sweetness in this brew, and it could use a more substantial body to carry it through. Carbonation is low, but similar to the appearance rating, I am hesitant to knock the score down too much due to this being a screw top growler pour.

O: Overall, the nose and flavor on this beer really worked for me. A slightly thicker body to carry through the complexity of the barrel, vanilla, and underlying porter, taking this one to the next level.
