The fine gents from The Livery were kind enough to allow me to growler-up some of this from their tap at the American Beer Fest of June, '07. They said it was their take on a Czech-style Doppelbock.
Shared the growler this past week with Alewife. Poured a deep, clear mahogany, had a wispy tan head topping things off, with some traces of lace clinging to the glass. Aroma was leaning to the malty side, with light caramel and suggestions of floral hops in the background. Body was medium and the bier was decently smooth as it passed over the tongue.
Like the aroma, the flavor was quite malty, with more caramel and some toffee thrown in. It also had some nutty notes to it, adding nicely to malts. Hopping here was flowery and a bit grassy; not too strong at all, the malt is accented in this one.
Interesting bier; not your conventional DBock, yet tasty and satisfying.
Prosit!!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
