On nitro-tap at the Livery.
Pours a deep black but has only the tiniest of a mocha head. Odd for a nitro pour, especially as it wouldn't hold anything after a few swirls. Oh well. From there, much better. The nose carries a strong roast with a touch of coffee. The flavor brings lots of roast with a nice amount of coffee as well. Good balance between the two. Light body and moderate carbonation. Really well done; a very nice example of the style.
Note: this is now listed as 6.5%.

On-tap at Ashley's in AA
a - pours quite black with a one finger mocha head, decent retention and lacing
s - deeply roasted malt, light char, not a very strong aroma, no sign of alcohol
t - taste is a bit fuller, charred malt and burnt toast, dark chocolate, light creaminess on the finish with some grainy notes as well, pretty dry and bitter, not much alcohol evident
m - medium to full bodied, low carbonation, pretty dry overall, not much alcohol warming
d - the bitterness limits a bit, not all that interesting either, one is enough for me
Pretty middle-of-the-road Irish dry stout, but certainly an upgrade over that most famous of all Irish stouts. Not really worth seeking out or trying unless there's nothing else interesting on the taplist.

Had on tap at the brewpub.
A- Pours a black color with some brown hues when held to the light. One finger tannish head shows medium retention. Streaky lacing on the sides of the glass.
S- Nice chocolate notes swirl around a roasted malt dominate presence. Light coffee in the ending of this with some grassy hops in the ending of the aroma.
T- Roasted malts in the front give off a mostly burnt flavor. Chocolate notes mix in about the middle with light nutty flavor. Coffee makes its presence known toward the end of the sip with a light hopping at the tail end.
M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. Roasted malts left on the palate with a light coffee aftertaste. Flavors were bold but blended well. Light drying on the palate after each sip.
D- This was a easy drinking stout that made me want another. Nothing over the top yet there was enough flavor that made you want to come back. Would like to make the drive to get more of this.

Enjoyed on nitro at the brewpub. For an Irish stout, not too dry. Above average mouthfeel. Creamy, lacey. Good full roasting. Somewhat sourness, so there is some complexity in the mouth going on. Goodbye Guiness, hello Fuggles. This is a 6.75% abv version.

on tap at the brewpub in Benton Harbor. pours opaque black with solid tan head, very creamy, and solid lacings; great retention.
aroma is of chocolate and coffee with roasted malt characteristics and a bit of cream. nicely balanced in the nose.
taste is roasted up front with a lightly sweet character and subtle notes of tartness and chocolate. a light funk gives the brew a unique character, like some sour ale got loose in the keg.
mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a lightly tart texture and a satisfying finish. nicely composed on the palate.
drinkability is decent. for a dry stout, the sweetness and tart quality takes away from the malt flavors. could be better, but still a solid brew.

This was an exceptional beer. The head was very thick and creamy, and really added to the first couple sips. The nitro tap helped with that. It tasted dark and roasted, but was not overpowering. This really was one of the best stouts I've had, better that Guinness. The only thing I didn't like is that I couldn't take any home in a growler. Really an exceptional beer though.

Served via nitro at the brewpub.
Pours a dense black with a finger of creamy tan head that leaves a nice layer of retention back with good lacing. The aroma is a lively mix of roasted character, coffee bitterness, and malt sweetness coming through.
The taste is a pleasant blend of roasty malts, and caramel and chocolate sweetness with a bit of coffee bitterenss running through the middle. Finishes dry and roasty with a touch of sweetness on the lips. The mouthfeel is medium, smooth, and creamy via the nitro pour and goes down oh, so easy.
This was one darn tasty and easy drinking Irish Stout and the addition of the nitro pour makes it even better. Good stuff!
