Barrel Aged Bock

On tap at the Hopcat

Pours a light layer of off white head. Color is a copper brown.

Aroma: Not too much barrel aged notes, but they are present. Caramel and biscuit malt flavors. Grassy hops. I get an odd flavor that reminds me of smoke/bacon.

Taste: The smoke/bacon flavor is back in the taste and is very apparent. Some spice notes with caramel malts and has biscuit in the finish. Very light -bal aged notes again.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and smokey. Lighter bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Ends dry with more bacon.

Overall, not a big fan of this one. I was pretty excited to try a -bal aged bock, but the barrel aging notes really didn't shine through too much. Also, too much bacon flavors.

Reviewed on 6/27/2010. On tap at the brewpub. Pours brown/orange with a white head. Aroma of tart and grainy malt. Flavor is tart with a light sourness plus tons of grains. Quite tasty actually. The tartness and grain did work very together so I am assuming the sourness is intentional as to represent the authentic Norwegian style? (otherwise it was a very fortunate infection)

A-great looking dark golden brown color letting some light through, one finger of white head leaving a light lacing on the glass

S-light nose of sweet caramel malt and a hint of citrus

T-great flavors here, sweet caramel malt, just a hint of a roasted flavor, nicely balanced with a nice citrus hop

M-medium body with a fair amount of carbonation, slick on the back of the throat and a crisp finish

D-so tasty and very sweet, the carbonation is a little strong, just a hit, but this is still a delicious beer that I could drink too many of
