Fliptop bottle courtesy of Derek.
Pours a deep, slightly hazy amber with a big bubbly head that recedes to a thick collar and leaves spotty lacing.
The aroma has some clean, crisp caramel malts with some sweet apples and toasted bread. But the most interesting aspect is the lightly sour, vinous aroma with hints of sour cherries and oak. Interesting.
The taste is even more sour with the initial taste being the tart cherries and acidic barrel character. The caramel malts and bread are present in the background but it's less prevalent than the dry wine-like presence. The finish is dry and oaky with a red wine presence.
The mouthfeel is lightly carbonated with a dry tannic presence and a bit of funk.
This is a different take on a doppelbock with the uniqueness of the wine barrel really taking things in a different direction. Another interesting from The Livery.

Thanks to Derek for sending me this one. Shared at the Bruery last night.
A: The pour is a dark caramel color, perhaps light brown, with a white head. A bit on the light side for a doppelbock.
S: The nose is quite tart with plenty of sour cherries and cola. A hint of chocolate and miscellaneous fruit notes, and undertones of toffee and malt.
T: Plenty of sourness on the flavor as well. A fair bit of vinegar, but it works nicely with the cherries, cola, toffee, and caramel. This is sort of reminiscent of an oud bruin.
M: The body is medium with a solid carbonation.
D: Some other beer drinkers were not huge fans, but I liked the way this one turned out. Of course, I like almost anything that's sour.

Pours a fizzy white head. Color is caramel light brown.
Aroma: It actually has some sour unique which is unique. Oak and cherries. Big and malty with some toffee.
Taste: Sour cherries, vanilla, oak, spices. These flavors cover up a lot of the caramel and toffee malt flavors. A little bit of fruit flavors as well. The sour notes really take over the doppelbock flavors.
Mouthfeel: Smooth, tart, and creamy. Nothing like a regular doppelbock. Medium bodied with a low to medium amount of carbonation. Ends with a vinegar acidic flavor.
Overall, a very unique and interesting beer. Definitely worth a try. It is somewhat drinkable, but I don't know how much I would want of it. It is rather big.
