Basket Case is listed at the Livery as a Imperial Chocolate Rye Oatmeal Milk Stout. I listed it as a milk stout. I enjoyed this beer on tap on 8/10/2012 at the Livery.
Served in a pint glass, the beer was black with a mocha lacing. It gave a malty aroma with notes of chocolate. The first impression was the smoothness of the stout. It had sweet chocolate notes with a malty backbone. A focused tongue will note the rye notes that come through as potent as a good rye bread. The tang in the rye yields in the aftertaste to a certain level of sweetness. For a 9.5% ABV, the stout was mild. The alcohol did not bite though the aftertaste was warming. I have not had a bad beer at the Livery, but this is a favorite.
