Tasted this beer on cask by a pint at the Penderel's Oak, a JDW pub b/w Holborn and Chancery Lane tube stations, London.
A: deep and dark mahogany to ebony hue, coming with a thin tan head which sustains throughout the drink... ideal for a hand-pulled cask-conditioned ale.
S: deeply-scented roastiness and char upfront, with a tinge of sourly sweet plum fruitiness and burned grains against a refreshing hop presence, added by a touch of slightly tart, vinous aroma like Pinot Grigio!
T: rich-textured, but silky smooth--mouthful of bitter dark(est) chocolates, expresso-blend coffee beans, roasted barley, underlined by a tinge of slightly sour fruitiness; gradually leading to a profoundly bitter and roasted aftertaste which lends lots of dryness to the overall flavour.
M&D: extremely smooth and spiced up at the back with a dryish Fuggles-hop like kickback; overall very balanced and easy to drink. This is one of the better, deliciously dry stout I've tasted on cask recently. Recommended!
